What to expect
Clinical research shows that painting is exceptionally beneficial for our mental health and wellbeing. Although the benefits are subtle while we paint, there are numerous positive impacts to our psychological health happening at once. To start with, probably the most obvious and well-known factors are that painting is wonderful for stress relief and developing creativity. What many of us might not realize or consider, however, is that painting is also an exercise in strengthening our memory, focus, and problem-solving abilities.Â
Creating any type of art is an act of healing, where we are actively practicing mindfulness by being fully present. So, just because we aren’t sitting cross-legged in silence and stillness does not mean we aren’t experiencing a type of meditation.  Â
In this 2.5 hour workshop we will explore these restorative benefits by way of the Person-Oriented Painting process, an intuitive and mindful painting technique, led by a certified painting therapist. This specific technique beings quite uniquely, by painting with the non-dominant hand to turn-off and activate different parts of the brain and form a literal connection with the painting materials. A very meditative and mindful practice, we will not go in with a planned subject theme, but rather each follow our own path intuitively to let the painting come through.
